One-to-one run coaching with Josh Frewin

Personal coaching for your next finish line.

From your first 5K to Cocodona 250, I build flexible training, runner-specific strength and mobility, and detailed race preparation around you, your goal, and the life you already lead.

Your goal, your life, and a coach who pays attention to both.

The real obstacle

You don't need 20 hours a week. You need a plan that can survive Tuesday.

01

Your calendar changes.

Work runs late. A kid gets sick. The weekend disappears. Your training should adapt instead of making you feel behind.

02

Generic plans assume a generic life.

A spreadsheet can prescribe miles. It can't see the context around them—or decide what matters most when time gets tight.

03

More isn't always better.

Chasing every workout is how busy runners burn out. Consistency comes from making the right call, week after week.

My coaching philosophy

Do hard things. Enjoy where they take you.

I don't believe running has to be punishment or a brutal “stay hard” grind. It can be fun, take you into beautiful places, and leave you proud of what your body can do.

Go see the beautiful trails. Take on something hard. Finish profoundly proud of what you did—and still loving the run.
That's the relationship with running I want to help you build.
Hard can still be joyful.

My story

College kicker. Ultra finisher. Dad and coach.

I'm Josh Frewin. I grew up in Payson, Arizona, and kicked and punted at Greenville University in Illinois. After college, I went looking for something competitive—and found running.

I've finished more than 27 ultramarathons, from the Stagecoach 100 and Mogollon Monster 100 to Cocodona 250 in 2025 and Tahoe 200 in 2026. In 2027, I'm returning to Cocodona and lining up for Moab 240.

I've actually finished these races while working full time and raising a family. That's the version of training I know firsthand, and it shapes how I coach: focused, adaptable, and grounded in what you can sustain.

I struggled with leg cramping during my first several big races and learned firsthand about salt intake, nutrition, hydration, mobility, and injury prevention. Every race has taught me something I now bring to the next start line.

Working with me can help you skip much of that learning curve and avoid preventable challenges. I'll help you understand what your body needs so you can spend more time doing what you love.

Running is part of our family's normal life. My kids are 4 and 7, and to them having an ultrarunner for a dad is just normal. At running club, at church, and in everyday conversations, they hear people ask me, “When's the next race?” They crew me at races, meet me at aid stations, help out, and cheer me on. They also see long runs, laps around the block, and our Camp Verde Running Group's different Tuesday-evening 5K as part of what families do together.

I have a Sports Management background, but the biggest thing I bring is attention. I learn your goal, your schedule, and how you respond to training so I can give you a plan—and support—that feels personal from the first week to race day.

I handle the training details, race research, and adjustments so you can focus on doing the work and reaching the start line ready.

An adaptive training plan

Built in focused one- to two-week blocks around your current fitness, goal, family, work, and the time you actually have.

Runner-specific strength

Race-day nutrition

Fueling and hydration planning shaped around your race, your preferences, and what works in training—plus available product discounts.

Coaching that responds

Not a blank three-month plan.

Traditional plans can make one missed workout feel like failure. Then runners pile on miles, fall behind, feel overwhelmed, and burn out. I coach what is happening now—not what a spreadsheet assumed months ago.

You miss a workout

No problem. We adapt forward from where you are now instead of automatically stacking the session back in and overdoing it.

It felt too easy or too hard

I follow up on how the workout actually went and adjust the next one using your real feedback.

Your schedule changes

We reshape the next week or two so the plan stays useful, manageable, and connected to your goal.

You are part of a team, too. ExtraPoint Ultra athletes can connect with other runners working toward their own goals, share what they are learning, and support one another—while your coaching stays completely personal to you.

FAQ

Before you commit.

Straight answers for runners with full calendars and big goals.

Not at all. I coach the runner in front of me, whether you're building toward your first 5K, returning after time away, or preparing for Cocodona. Your starting point and your goal set the plan.

It depends on your starting point and goal, but I build around your actual availability. We start with the hours you genuinely have—not an arbitrary mileage target.

Then we adapt from where you are now. I won't automatically pile the missed session onto tomorrow. We'll decide what to keep, cut, move, or replace so one unpredictable week doesn't become a lost month.

A free plan can suggest workouts. I learn your patterns, ask the next question, notice when the numbers don't tell the whole story, and keep your training connected to the goal you said mattered.

No. Coaching is remote, so you can train wherever your roads, trails, work, and family happen to be.
